Anna Salmi

anna salmi

Anna Salmi is a design researcher and her research centers on the role of design in/between organizations and on how collaborative designing as an activity relates to organizational transformation. She is a doctoral candidate of design at the Department of Design in Aalto University School of Art, Design and Architecture. She has also worked as a researcher at SimLab at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management in Aalto University School of Science. 


Anna is currently working in Encore group and finalizing her doctoral dissertation that deals with developing organizational innovation practices using co-design methods. She has conducted research in several cross-disciplinary research projects concerning organizational and service development in industrial context, wellbeing and health as well as educational sector. She has experience of managing a large-scale research project involving multidisciplinary international collaboration.


Her theoretical and research interests go across design for wellbeing, systemic and organizational change and design for services. In her work she employs human-centered design methods, and especially empathic and generative tools to facilitate people’s participation in processes of design.

She has taught co-design and business process development at the master’s level.

She has been a visiting researcher at University of California Irvine, the Department of Informatics, EVOKE Lab in 2013.
