Emre Caglar

I am a doctoral candidate in Middle East Technical University, Ankara and a visiting researcher in Aalto University.

In my research, I’m developing generative research methodologies for unfamiliar contexts, such as for anticipating future transformations. My work feeds on design fictions and narrative cognition for increasing immersion in the early phases of design. I conduct action research with undergraduate design students within workshops and courses to test and iterate my approach. My current aim is to produce a generative research approach that can improve anticipation though diegetic prototyping and world building techniques.

My future research plan is to focus more on the relationship between design and fiction, from a cognitive persuasion perspective. I’m interested in understanding how designers create and transform story worlds and how these story worlds relate to their own perceptions.
