Pinar Simsek

I’m a doctoral candidate in the Department of Design at Aalto University School of Art, Design and Architecture. I’ve got my BSc and MSc from Middle East Technical University, Department of Industrial Design.

My doctoral research stands in the intersection of user experience design and organizational management studies. My focus is to understand the complex relationship between employee experience in creative fields and the interactive tools that the employees use to accomplish work-related tasks. In a world, where almost all type of work includes digitalization and interactivity, the workplace experience becomes connected, more than ever, with the tools employees engage with during their work life. The purpose of my research is to provide a wholistic understanding of the context-dependent employee experience with a special focus on interactive tools, which could be used as a guide to increase the well-being of employees. The audience of this research are management and user experience practitioners as well as researchers.

This study adopts ethnographic research methods. The data is gathered from several different creative work contexts where the work is highly bound to interactive tools.

My current research interests are:

  • UX at work
  • Employee experience
  • Employee well-being
